Bulk Rename

Rename multiple files with one predictable pattern

Renaming photos, scanned receipts or project exports one at a time is easy to get wrong. Bulk File Renamer applies one filename pattern to a whole batch and shows the original and proposed names side by side before downloading. Sort the batch or drag files into your preferred order; numbering follows that visible order.

Example: add sequence numbers to photo filenames

Suppose you want photo-001.jpg, photo-002.jpg and photo-003.jpg instead of a mix of camera filenames. Add your JPG files, choose their order and enter the pattern photo-{n:3}. The preview shows each new filename with its original extension. The original files on your device are never renamed; downloads create new copies.

Supported pattern tokens include {name} for the original name without extension, {n} for an unpadded number, {n:2} or {n:3} for padded numbers, and {date} for today's local date in YYYY-MM-DD format. You can combine tokens and fixed text, such as project-{date}-{n:3}. Check the live preview and resolve duplicate or invalid filenames before continuing.

How to rename a batch

  1. Drop or select the files. Any file type can be added; the tool works on filenames without editing the file contents.
  2. Type a pattern, sort the list or drag rows into order, and review Original versus Preview.
  3. Download renamed copies as a ZIP, or use the separate-download option. Original files on your device remain unchanged.

Common questions

Does this rename files in their original folders?

No. The normal browser workflow creates renamed copies for download; it does not rename source files in place.

Can I preserve original extensions when renaming different file types?

Yes. The tool keeps each original extension and does not change the file format or contents. Check the mixed-file status if your batch contains several kinds of file.

Does the tool support regex or search-and-replace rules?

Not in this version. It uses a predictable pattern with the original name, numbering, date and fixed text. Review the available tokens in the tool before downloading.

Can two files end up with the same new name?

The preview checks for duplicate and portable-invalid names so you can correct problems before downloading.
